PARKERSBURG — The Great American Home Show has been canceled for later this month.
Kevin Roberts, President of the Home Builders Association of the Mid-Ohio Valley, announced the cancellation Tuesday.
The show was scheduled to open Friday, April 22, and continue through Sunday, April 24, at the former Big Lots location in the Park Shopping Center.
“In order to be a success for the public, the participants and our association, a minimum number of exhibitors are needed to produce a great home show,” Roberts said. “As of today, we are below our minimum standard and feel that it is not in anyone’s best interest to host the show under these circumstances.”
The home show has traditionally been where area homeowners planning a variety of projects have the chance to examine a wide range of products and services available locally.
The home show generally features builders, remodelers, landscapers, heating-and-cooling experts, kitchen-and-bath specialists, foundation repair, patio builders, pavement companies, carpet services, energy-efficient windows and doors, home security, home design, fencing, insulation products, satellite television, lawn and garden equipment and more.
The Great American Home Show has been an annual event in the area for more than 40 years and remains popular with local residents.
“It allows us to showcase different trades and new products in our industry and provides the opportunity for prospective customers to meet one on one with the local exhibitors to discuss their projects,” Roberts said. “We had a late start scheduling the show this year due to finding and procuring an appropriate location for the event.
“We know that many of our members are very busy and have already scheduled projects for this year’s building season. The timing of this year’s show is just not working to anyone’s advantage.”
Organizers are looking at scheduling the next show early in 2023, the traditional time of year when the show has been held successfully in the past.
“Plans are underway to have the show return in February of 2023 — hopefully at the same great location in the Park Shopping Center,” Roberts said. “We want to extend our thanks to local member and show sponsor, Wincore Windows & Doors, for their continued support of our association.”
